URGENT APPEAL: SUPPORT RESCUE WORKERS IN UKRAINE

We thank our friends and comrades in the British Ukraine Solidarity Campaign for circulating this appeal.

We have received an appeal from the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine (NGPU) affiliated to the Confederation of Free Trade Unions (KVPU) which represents teams of the 10th Mining Rescue Squad in Donetsk Region of eastern Ukraine.

Their region is under immense pressures at present from Russian attacks and the offensive approaching the city of Pokrovsk.

There is a video message here:

The work of the Rescue Squads is not only in the mines they have kept working, but also fighting fires and rescue operations in the towns and villages which are under direct Russian artillery and missile attacks.

Many rescue workers have been killed, deliberately targeted by Russian strikes.

·       The campaign is raising money to obtain aid for these  workers, a wide range of firefighting PPE, tools and equipment.

·       We also need to obtain a suitable vehicle for the Rescue Squad for use in their operations – we aim to deliver with the aid in October.

We are writing to ask your support for the appeal – the campaign has just launched a new crowdfunder here:

Support rescue workers in Ukraine! – a Politics crowdfunding project in London by Ukraine Solidarity Campaign (crowdfunder.co.uk)

Financial donations can also be made directly to our campaign, and we can provide you further information.   The aid they need is expensive, we also aim to get a mini-bus and convert it for use.

The Ukrainian trade unions need our support more than ever, thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Yours in solidarity

Christopher Ford
